St Aidan’s is a Church of England Primary Academy which is at the heart of the local community of Mill Hill, Blackburn. We were judged as Good across all areas by Ofsted in January 2020.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, research informed Deputy Headteacher after the appointment of a new Headteacher who will join us in challenging educational and social disadvantage to achieve the highest possible standards whilst preparing all of our students to lead successful lives.

The Deputy Headteacher at our school is a wide ranging role. The Deputy will be responsible for Teaching and Learning, will be a leader of a core subject across school and will be the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. This is a non class based role but there will be a teaching requirement.

The right candidate will:

  • Hold as a minimum, a B.ED or B.A & PGCE / PGDE or equivalent and have at least 4 years’ experience in teaching or leadership.
  • Will have ideally taught across all /two primary phases
  • Will have made an impact across school on the areas that they have led
  • Will have experience of coaching and mentoring
  • Will have current knowledge and understanding how how to support different groups of children such as those with English as an additional language
  • Lead the school in the absence of the Headteacher for assemblies, management decisions, budget control
  • Manage and motivate the support team, including TAs, lunchtime staff and all support staff
  • Have a full understanding of processes involving children in care, child protection and safeguarding and be committed to working in partnership
  • Be committed to high standards of teaching and learning and the professional development of staff
